Who here is using this unit with VDJ? How is it with VDJ and are you happy with your purchase?

I have used the Prime 4 with VirtualDJ. IMO it works just as well as any other controller when it's put into that mode, plus it has all the standalone functionality. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I bought it specifically because it was a standalone unit. It has a nice big SSD inside. I don't have any issues with the screen size (some people like to complain about that when comparing with laptop use).

Denon have added loads to it since release, and are still releasing updates.

What SSD are you using?

Ah now you're asking. I installed it in 2020 so I honestly can't remember.

I have the Prime 4. Nice unit, it is big Almost too big.. . works well, but I don't use it often because of its size. I like it in stand alone mode but engine dj doesn't come close to VDJ. have 2 gig Samsung drive inside.

Is it really that big of a controller?? I've heard that before, people say its too big to be portable. I use either turntables, my CDJs or my Denon setup (SC5000m's w/ X1800) so I guess the size wouldn't really effect me.

Since my MixStream is no longer I'm looking for something to replace it. I have found 1 of these units for a good price and it does meet a lot of my check boxes. I wish there was something close to the MCX 8000 because I loved that unit (my screens kept freezing so I took it back to the store) and this seems to be the closet lol

There are a few issues with these units. Faders snapping off, the view button collapsing in to the unit requiring a total strip down and failures where "peripherals" don't come online. Also others are reporting intermittent touch screen failure.

Also another potential problem where the XLR outputs sound worse than the RCA but that wasn't conclusive.

Very much marmite. Some people love them and others have had issues.

Thanks Keith, I'm gonna go pick it up tomorrow and run it through the paces. I'm getting it from Guitar Center, and they have a 45 day return policy, money back no questions asked.

I figure I can give it hell in that amount of time lol

That's good Huey. If you have 45 days to test then you can't lose.

About these "issues" - yes there have been a few people posting on the Denon DJ forum about broken faders and buttons, but how are these people treating their units? That's an unknown.

Since my earliest days of DJing in the late 70s I've never broken a fader, knob or button on anything I've owned. My Prime 4 is still in one piece.

Typically on a forum, you only see the negative side because people post when they have problems. There are thousands of these units out there, but only a handful of posts about broken parts.

As for the XLR thing, that could be down to the speakers or cables being used. I've not noticed any weirdness from my unit.

I wouldn't say it's big or huge either. No more excessive that other similar units. The flight case for mine is (approx) 32 x 22 x 6 inches.

I don't think it's too big to be portable, it is too big for some smaller Dj booths especially if you're going to use it with a laptop. I would recommend a deck saver to help protect the faders, I've not had issues with mine but I have deck saver when I transport . I have read in the forums that they are breaking

What about a hard case?? Shouldn’t that be fine?

And I’m with you Groovin, I’ve wore out faders but I’ve never broke any or knobs for that matter. I think people just abuse shit anymore.

I have the soft case. I didn't want the extra weight of the hard case. I like the deck saver I have them for 3 of my controllers going way back to my vci300 which still looks new going on 13 years And I agree people abuse their stuff

Did you get the prime 4??

Posted 5 days ago @ 1:54 am
Yes sir, drove up and picked it up last night 👍🏾

Got it home pulled it out of the case and plopped it on my table. Plugged in my hard drive and played with it for about 5 minutes 😝

I’ll run it through its paces this weekend. But just from the little time I’ve messed with it I can say I’m definitely gonna have to get used to the weight of the jogs. They are SUPER HEAVY!!

Other then that, my first impressions are pretty good 👍🏾

My Prime 4 jogs are really stiff too. Can barely do a backspin.

As I understand it, very early ones had loose jogs and people complained, so Denon made them tighter (and overdid it).

Any way to loosen them up??

Posted 5 days ago @ 6:04 pm
There's probably some way of doing it if you take the entire thing to bits, but that's no easy job.

Posted 5 days ago @ 7:14 pm
Yeah, never mind that lol!! I think I can manage.

Posted 5 days ago @ 7:16 pm
Ok got a 2tb SSD put in and got my music moved onto it (easy process).

The jogs aren’t as bad as I first thought 👍🏾

Now the fxs on the other hand are definitely gonna take some getting used to coming on of a 72 and standard club mixers 🤷🏾‍♂️

All in all it’s feel and sounds pretty solid.

Up next, testing with VDJ….
